A truck driver approaching a busy interchange needs sufficient distance to:

  6. Account for passenger vehicles accelerating around the truck.
  7. Complete the lane change safely.

When several vehicles are simultaneously entering, exiting and changing lanes, the risk of conflict increases.

The question is:

Does the roadway design give drivers enough room and time to recover from those mistakes?


Road Design Should Assume Drivers Will Make Mistakes

Good highway engineering does not assume perfect drivers.

A Safer 401 Cambridge Could Include

Better advance signage

Give drivers earlier information about upcoming exits.
